Digestlyser

We (AHA) created a term called digestlysing, it is part electrolyzing and anaerobic digestion to create methane. So how does this work? Well the theory is that you add 5% by weight of biomass to the electrolyser solution to utilize it as an electrolyte in a liquid electrolyser setup. This should help to create more yield than that of regular electrolyzing, and even higher with a pulse modulation.

We have drawn out numerous plans for some large 2500 gallon stainless steel dairy tanks, but we first have to plan for smaller plans and prove functionality of the digestilization process.

Here is what we have done so far:

We wanted to create a small low cost electrolyser/digestlyers to prove viability out of very inexpensive parts. This was the main goal, and the secondary goal was to find these parts easily anywhere. Where did we go? Our local builders supply and local hardware store.

Material: 18” PVC 3” pipe, 1 roll of aluminum mesh (from screen door material), 1 PVC cap, 1 nipple connector and some 16 gauge wire, a tap, hose to fit over nipple and epoxy.

Procedure:

1) Cut your PVC pipe to 18”

2) Drill 2 holes into the top of it about 4” down

3) Create two meshes one that is slightly longer so that the outside mesh will flare out a little and the inside mesh will flare in.

4) Attach the screen meshes, 1 on the inside and 1 on the outside.

5) Hook 2 wires to the inside on each opposing side and the same for the outer side.

6) Make a ring with the solid copper and solder all the corresponding wires together (all positives together and all negative together)

7) Drill and tap the PVC cap and screw in your nipple.

8) Take your tube and fit it over your nipple and run it to your storage area.

9) Take you cell you created and put in a canister of water.

10) Apply ~2-2.5V to the cell the amps is linear to the amount of amperage you put in to the amount of hydrogen you put out.

11) We have tested mildly the efficiency of the electrolyser, but have been stopped, because we need to get accurate readings before introducing the biomass to the cell.

After we get our meter we will be able to calculate the efficiency of the electrolyser compared to the efficiency of the digestlyer. This first step will help prove the theory and make a good foundation for our digestilization tanks.
